Alterra

Alterra is the Dutch research institute for our green living environment. Alterra offers a combination of practical and scientific research in a multitude of disciplines related to the green world around us and the sustainable use of our living environment. Flora and fauna, soil, water, the environment, geo-information and remote sensing, landscape and spatial planning, man and society are just a few of the numerous aspects of the environment that Alterra focuses on.

Alterra is part of Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR).

CEH

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is the UK's Centre of Excellence in the terrestrial and freshwater environmental sciences. CEH's parent organisation is the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

The H index is an index that attempts to measure both the scientific productivity and the apparent scientific impact of a scientist. The index is based on the set of the scientist's (or institute’s) most cited papers and the number of citations that they have received in other people's publications.

Irstea
definition:National Research Institute of Science and Technology for Environment and Agriculture

Irstea (formerly called Cemagref) is a public research institute in France that targets results directly useable in land and water management. The goal is to produce new knowledge and technical innovations for use by managers, decision-makers and companies in providing answers to the specific questions raised by society concerning resource management, land use and development.

Work focuses on surface-water resources, land and aquatic ecosystems, predominantly rural areas, water technologies, agrosystems and food safety.

UFZ

The UFZ employs 930 people at its sites in Leipzig, Halle and Magdeburg. It is funded by the German government and by the states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The UFZ belongs to the Helmholtz Association which is Germany’s largest scientific organisation (28,000 employees in 16 research centres, an annual budget of around EUR 2.8 billion).
